Violence is depicted from a first-person perspective and pits the player against enemy gladiators in a bright and colourful Roman arena. Other enemies include rabid honey badgers, giant crabs and the floating heads of the audience members.
Using a variety of weapons including axes, bows, flails, morning stars, swords and your fists you must kill everyone in the arena before they kill you. Despite the comical stars which can appear above your opponents’ heads, the violence contains sustained, excessive blood and gore effects and includes the ability to beat the eyeballs out of your enemy’s skulls, slice off their facial features, dismember them and use their limbs as weapons and completely pulverize them into pulp. Wound details featuring bone and brain matter are frequently shown throughout the game.
