This game allows users to make in-game purchases with real-world currency. Players can purchase the in-game currency of ‘NHL points’, which can be used in a variety of ways, such as purchasing items in the games store, tier skips for the Season pass or card player packs. Card player packs contain randomly selected items, where the player may not know what they are getting prior to purchase. Whilst some packs have purchase limits, other do not, meaning players can purchase an unlimited amount if they wish to do so. Parents, carers or other responsible adults should check to see what is being offered before making any purchase on behalf of a child. It should be noted that the game can still be played without the need to purchase such items.

This game includes depictions of sporting action that shows violence. Players can push, shove and slam each other onto the ice and into the sidewalls during normal gameplay. Players can also engage in fistfights on the ice, punch-connecting sound effects are heard. Power meters are present during fights which deplete with each hit until a player is knocked down. Whilst there is no visible injuries or blood shown, the game includes ‘injury animations’ where some players can be seen limping off the rink.
